And innovation, in turn, is only as impactful as the people it serves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For over three decades, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/mdezai\">Mehul Desai<\/a><\/strong>, Chairman &amp; Co-Founder of <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tntra.io\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Tntra<\/a><\/strong>, has built and deployed technology across continents &#8211; from the U.S. and Japan to India and Europe. A pioneer of mobile payments and digital finance, Mehul has witnessed how technology reshapes societies, industries, and even the very idea of progress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And through it all, one observation has stayed constant for him:<br><strong>Innovation, as it exists today, is neither efficient, inclusive, nor sustainable.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Innovation_Throwing_Things_at_the_Wall\"><\/span>Innovation: Throwing Things at the Wall?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite all the progress humanity has made, Mehul believes the process of innovation still feels like throwing ideas at the wall and seeing what sticks. It\u2019s inconsistent, often disconnected from lifelong learning, and rarely focused on long-term human development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In his view, innovation today works in silos. The people driving it, the systems teaching it, and the institutions funding it often don\u2019t talk to each other. As a result, ideas don\u2019t grow into real solutions that make life better for everyone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And that disconnect, he says, is something Tntra was built to solve.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_AI_Race_and_the_Question_of_Equity\"><\/span>The AI Race and the Question of Equity<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>As the world embraces artificial intelligence and prepares for artificial general intelligence (AGI), the stakes are rising. While AI promises unimaginable progress, it also threatens to widen the global divide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Having lived through multiple AI hype cycles, Mehul puts things in perspective:<br>\u201c<em>I&#8217;ve now been involved in three of the five AI hype cycles and just like other technologies, the signal will stay and get strengthened as the noise fades away<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A recent MIT report stated that <strong>95% of companies have seen zero return on their generative AI investments<\/strong>. And Mehul isn\u2019t surprised.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He predicts that, at least in the short term, AI will increase inequality, between the Global North and South, and even within developed economies. The resources that drive <strong>AI<\/strong>, <strong>data,&nbsp; hardware, and energy<\/strong>, are concentrated in the hands of a few nations and corporations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But he\u2019s also an optimist.<br>\u201c<em>Like many things in life, even technology gets commoditized and then comes under the control of a few powerful people and entities. That cycle is not going to break but within that do you see some equality developing? Eventually, yes<\/em>!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_Indian_Innovation_Paradox\"><\/span>The Indian Innovation Paradox<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>India\u2019s tech scene is vibrant, but Mehul points out a paradox: despite three decades of rapid economic reform, <strong>India hasn\u2019t produced a single globally recognized technology product or app.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><strong><em>Why?<br><\/em><\/strong>\u201c<strong><em>Indians have become \u201ctraders\u201d rather than \u201ccreators\u201d) &#8211; and some related to institutional support and ecosystems! As we discussed earlier, I believe India needs its own highly \u201cincestuous\u201d or self-reinforcing ecosystem\u2026once again, Tntra could be the catalyst!<\/em><\/strong>,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>He explains that Indians naturally think \u201coutside the box\u201d because there\u2019s no room inside the box. But that mindset alone doesn\u2019t scale. What India needs, he believes, is a structured ecosystem, a self-reinforcing network where creativity can thrive sustainably, much like Silicon Valley or Boston.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201c<em>Governments can be most effective thru public policy and support is ensuring the underlying \u201cutilities for innovation\u201d are in place, and then incentivizing and almost unleashing the private sector to build the \u201cusability\u201d layers,<\/em>\u201d he adds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And to get there, India must outgrow its dependency on external validation, including the obsession with H-1B visas. \u201cit\u2019s high time that Indian\u2019s stop viewing themselves as a number &#8211; i.e how many H1B visas &#8211; and view themselves as a creative force, especially given our cultural DNA of becoming one with the Universe, we could be THE creative force for good,\u201d he says.!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_Birth_of_Tntra_Building_the_Utility_for_Innovation\"><\/span>The Birth of Tntra: Building the Utility for Innovation<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>After 30 years in global technology, Mehul founded <strong>Tntra<\/strong> in 2020 ,at the peak of the pandemic, as a way to institutionalize everything he\u2019d learned about innovation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>His vision was simple yet bold:<br>to <strong>build the utility layer of innovation<\/strong> so that creativity could scale efficiently, inclusively, and sustainably.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tntra operates as an <strong>AI-first, IP-enabled global innovation ecosystem<\/strong>, a sandbox where entrepreneurs, enterprises, educators, and governments can translate ideas into <strong>risk-mitigated innovation<\/strong>. Its approach is rooted in the \u201c<em>3Ps<\/em>\u201d: <strong><em>Patents, Products, and People<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201c<strong>We don\u2019t just build technology<\/strong>,\u201d Mehul explains. \u201c<em>We focus on helping entrepreneurs to enterprise to education providers to government agencies to society at large &#8211; transform Ideas into risk mitigated Innovation, along with linking Innovation to Lifelong Learning (i.e. Human Relevance) and eventually delivering Impact, whether it&#8217;s in the realm of HealthTech, EdTech, FinTech, etc.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tntra\u2019s ecosystem combines AI-led platforms, advisory services, and engineering solutions across sectors like <em>FinTech<\/em>, <em>HealthTech<\/em>, and <em>EdTech<\/em>. It also runs an incubator, a venture fund with a non-traditional model, and an academy called Gurukula, focused on nurturing people for lifelong learning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>The GOAL? To make innovation not just efficient, but human.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"SuperEconomies_and_Human_Relevance\"><\/span>SuperEconomies and Human Relevance<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Two of Tntra\u2019s most ambitious initiatives, SuperEconomies and Human Relevance, reflect Mehul\u2019s belief that innovation must serve humanity, not the other way around.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tntra.io\/blog\/rise-supereconomy-how-risk-mitigated-innovation-ai-intellectual-property-redefine-global-growth\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">SuperEconomies<\/a> focuses on connecting GDP growth with the power of ideas, creating equitable, inclusive economic systems where creativity drives value, not just capital or resources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Human Relevance, on the other hand, ensures that people remain essential in an increasingly AI-driven world.<br><br>For Mehul, innovation, lifelong learning, and impact must move together, as one continuous cycle.
